Mo the Moose, a unique art sculpture, is on his way back to the Elora Green Space, after Centre Wellington council approved the the reinstatement of the art piece at the council meeting on Monday.
The sculpture, created by Canadian artist Frank Ripley is approximately five feet tall and is uniquely designed using found mechanical pieces, such as wrenches and gears.
This is made possible due to the legacy of late Elora resident Stephanie Minarovich. Her friends and local residents Marty VanVleit and Resa Lent manage the Stephanie Minarovich Green Space Fund, which is a $25,000 endowment to support improvements to the greenspace area on the corner of Metcalfe and Mill Street West. Part of those funds supported the refurbishment and reinstallation of the art sculpture, the Tall Man.
During Monday’s presentation to council, Van Vliet spoke of the value of this statue and the green space, something his friend would enjoy.
Council approved the steps to replacing the existing pond feature with a new statue at the council meeting on June 30.
The Elora Sculpture Project is donating one of their sculpture bases to accommodate the sculpture.
$6,000 from the township’s General Capital Reserve will be used for the sculpture project, as the funds were not allocated in
the 2025 budget . The Stephanie Minarovich Green Space Fund will cover any additional costs.
