NEWS RELEASE TOWN OF ERIN
Erin, ON — Construction is set to begin later this month on a section of the Elora Cataract Trail that will establish a vital connection between Hillsburgh and Erin’s new Water Resource Recovery Facility. This marks a key milestone in the Town’s broader infrastructure plan and paves the way for future growth and long-term sustainability.
The Town of Erin has awarded the contract for the project to Vaughan-based KAPP Infrastructure Inc. at a tendered price of $21.8 million (excluding HST). The work is anticipated to be completed by late summer 2026.
Using an open-trench construction method, crews will install both wastewater and municipal water mains beneath the trail, ensuring Hillsburgh is seamlessly linked to water and wastewater services in Erin village.
“The Elora Cataract Trail linear and culvert works project is a major step forward in the Town’s long-term infrastructure vision,” said Brian Kavanagh, Director of Infrastructure for the Town of Erin. “This work will provide the critical water and wastewater connectivity needed to support future growth in both Hillsburgh and Erin village, while enhancing the resiliency and reliability of our municipal systems.”
In addition to the pipe installation, the project will replace 26 aging stormwater management culverts currently situated beneath the trail, improving drainage and protecting the surrounding environment.
To mitigate environmental impacts and enhance green space, the Town has committed to restoring the trail surface to an improved condition. Furthermore, for every tree removed during construction, roughly four new trees will be planted. A total of approximately 21,000 trees will be planted along the trail and throughout the community.
This infrastructure initiative not only supports environmental stewardship and public safety, but also represents a strategic investment in the Town of Erin’s future. During construction, the portion of the trail between Trafalgar Road and Main Street/Wellington Road 124 is closed to the public. Trail users are advised to plan alternate routes and observe all posted signage for their safety.
