The Upper Credit Humane Society, a long-standing pillar of animal care in the Town of Erin, has been told its lease at 5383 Trafalgar Road will not be renewed beyond May 2028—putting the future of the shelter at risk.
Town officials confirmed the decision, citing a desire to “maximize the property’s value” for taxpayers. While the Town contracts basic animal control services elsewhere, UCHS provides much more—rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals, supporting pet owners in crisis, reuniting lost pets with their families, and offering volunteer and education programs.
Earlier this year, UCHS proposed transforming the site into a modern, multi-use community hub with expanded shelter space, public trails, education facilities, and a dog park. The plan was supported by local residents and the Erin Chamber of Commerce—but Council never allowed a formal presentation before deciding to end the lease.
Now, UCHS is asking the community to speak up. Supporters are urged to contact Town Council, sign a petition, and share the story. The organization hopes public pressure can help secure a future for the shelter—either at its current site or a new one.
