GUELPH – A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after another man was stabbed in the leg Tuesday evening at a north-end apartment.
Approximately 6:15 p.m. a group of people were inside an apartment near Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue when an argument broke out between two men who had not met before. The argument became physical and one of the men sustained an injury to his leg.
A man in his 40s was transported to hospital for treatment.
The suspect fled the unit but was later located in the area with assistance from a Waterloo Regional Police Service canine unit. The knife was also recovered after being thrown into a neighbouring yard. Investigation revealed the man is on probation with terms including not to attend the address where the assault occurred, not to have contact with a woman who was also present and not to possess weapons.
A 24-year-old Guelph man is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and five counts of breaching probation orders. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
