WELLINGTON COUNTY – West Region OPP laid 1425 charges across the region during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign.
The campaign, which ran from August 1 to the 4 targeted the negative driving behaviours that contribute to traffic collision deaths, injuries and property damage on our roadways.
Police also enforced Ontario’s Move Over law, which requires all drivers to slow down when approaching emergency vehicles with their emergency lights activated and, on highways/roads with more than one lane, move over a lane if safe to do so.
Breaking down the local numbers for our Wellington County detachments:
· there were 71speeding charges which is up from last year’s 32
· 15 failure to wear a seatbelt charges
· 1 distracted driving charges
· 2 impaired driving charges
· 5 fail to move over for emergency vehicles charges, which is up from just one charge last year at this time
