As of July 1, 2025, Wellington County is no longer responsible for residential curbside recycling. That role has shifted to producers of printed paper and packaging, under Ontario’s new Blue Box Transition. The program is now managed by Circular Materials, the organization overseeing recycling across the province.
For residents, there are no immediate changes—collection days and sorting methods remain the same for now. Future updates will come from Circular Materials or the waste contractor.
Businesses were not included in the new producer-led system. However, to support the local economy, Wellington County Council approved continued curbside recycling for businesses and institutions in 14 designated downtown areas.
Businesses inside and outside those areas can also register for a fee exemption card to drop off recyclables for free at any of the County’s six waste facilities.
Registration is still open.
