CENTRE WELLINGTON – Residential water meters installed by the Township of Centre Wellington in 2003 are up for replacement.
At yesterday’s meeting, council approved replacing 4,720 aging township water meters at a cost $2.8 million in 2025, including contingency and excluding non-rebate taxes.
Dino Masiero, the township’s manager of water services and environmental sustainability, says residential water meters typically have a service life ranging from 15 to 20 years, and the original meters are now at, or nearing the end of their lifespan, raising concerns regarding their operational accuracy and reliability.
Council approved awarding the tender to the township’s current water meter vendor, Neptune Technology Group Canada Co.
According to the report, a 3.2% tariff was added as a separate line item to the base pricing to account for tariffs.
Staff say this amount will be removed if the US and Canada is able to come to a trade agreement.
