The Wellington County OPP are equipping officers with body-worn cameras as part of a regional rollout. The devices, worn on the front of an officer’s vest, display a flashing green light in standby mode and switch to red when recording.
Police say the cameras are meant to improve transparency, strengthen accountability, and provide valuable evidence in investigations, while also enhancing safety for both the public and officers.
The initiative follows the introduction of in-car cameras and automatic licence plate recognition systems across the West Region. Training is underway, and full deployment in Wellington County is expected once all officers are prepared.
Officials say some officers have already started using the cameras during their patrols.
