Summer 2025 brought below-average rainfall across much of Canada, with several regions receiving less than half their normal precipitation.
Southwestern and central British Columbia, northern Alberta and Saskatchewan, much of Manitoba, Ontario’s northwest and east, southern Quebec, the Maritimes, and large parts of the North were especially affected.
While some heavy rains fell in August, they weren’t enough to offset the deficits. Many areas finished the season 50 to 70 millimetres below normal.

Janet Harrop of the Wellington Federation of Agriculture told Swap Talk that crops are resilient. “Crops know how to adapt,” she said, adding that the timing of dry spells is often just as important as the severity.
