GUELPH- A Guelph Martial artist won gold last week at the 2025 World Karate Championships in Niagara Falls, USA, delivering a landmark victory while representing Team Canada on the international stage.
A lifelong resident of the region, Skoufis began his martial arts journey at just four years old. Now a 6th-degree black belt and 28-time world champion, he showcased technical skill, precision, and competitive composure against elite athletes from around the globe.
Skoufis said:
“Standing on that podium was a moment of reflection more than anything. Every early morning, every challenge, and every bit of support from this community has shaped this journey. My goal has always been to lead by example — to show that with consistent effort, belief, and resilience, you can carve your own path and achieve what once felt impossible.”
Beyond his competitive success, Skoufis is known for his dedication to youth and community development.
He is also actively involved with local charities, schools, community groups, and more, which shows his perseverance both inside and outside the dojo.
