“Our provincial government will continue to stand with our first responders, so they can protect our rural communities,” said Rae. “Our public safety personnel work tirelessly to protect and support our communities, and they deserve access to mental health services that meet their unique needs. We are committed to building strong and resilient first responders—and, in turn, strong and resilient communities.”
First responders and public safety personnel are frontline workers who respond to emergencies and 911 calls. This can include fire, police, and emergency health services. These individuals are at a higher risk of experiencing occupational stress injuries because of routine exposure to traumatic events while responding to emergencies.
The Ontario government is investing in the long-term success of our first responders through the Mental Health Supports for Public Safety Personnel program by providing funding to create specialized supports, ensuring those who protect Ontario have the help they need, when and where they need it.
