GUELPH WELLINGTON – With a recent rise in romance scams, Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington is highlighting certain red flags to watch for.
Sarah Bowers-Peter, Program Coordinator for Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington, says a lot of people fall victim to the scam on social media and dating apps.
Sarah Bowers-Peter also shares how the scammer would get money from the victim.
If the scammer gets the financial help, they will then often disappear with the money.
She says do not share personal or financial information with anyone you have just met online or in person.
Anyone who suspects they have been the target of fraud should report it to their local police and can also visit the report cybercrime and fraud website to report it online.
