NEWS RELEASE GUELPH GENERAL HOSPITAL
In consultation with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, Guelph General Hospital has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on its 4 West inpatient unit after five patients acquired COVID-19 while in hospital.
Several steps have been taken to keep the virus from spreading. These steps include; putting all patients in the unit in appropriate additional precautions, COVID-19 testing of symptomatic patients on the unit, closing the unit to visitors except for compassionate grounds, and increasing the cleaning being done including frequent cleaning of high touch and high traffic areas.
All other areas of the hospital, including outpatient clinics, are functioning as normal.
Everyone that works or receives care at our hospital is required to wear a mask while on the outbreak unit. Masks are also encouraged but not required while in other areas of the hospital.
Masking stations are available at the entrances as well as at nursing stations. There are also collection bins at various locations across the hospital where masks can be discarded as part of a green, waste diversion initiative.
All who come to visit the hospital are encouraged to clean their hands often and avoid visiting if unwell.
