Press Release: Wellington County OPP, Feb. 17, 2026.
WELLINGTON NORTH – A Shelburne resident is facing several charges and a licence suspension.
On February 14, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit (TMU) were conducting proactive motorized snow vehicle patrol on an Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trail in Wellington North Township. As officers approached a group of snowmobilers, one rider sped past officers at a high rate of speed, failing to stop despite officers activating their red and blue emergency lights.
As a result of the investigation, a 57-year-old from Shelburne, is charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act with:
- Careless driving
- Fail to stop – flashing red and blue lights
- Speeding
Police demanded the accused provide a sample of their breath into an Approved Screening Device (ASD), which registered a warn range “alert”. As a result, they received a 7-day driver’s licence suspension.
Wellington OPP would like to remind riders they must stop for approaching police operated snowmobiles with flashing red and blue lights.
