ALMA – A community event created to honour the life of a young girl taken far too soon- will bring families, runners, and supporters together this spring.
The Run for Madilyn, featuring a 3K kids run along with 5K and 10K run/walk options, will take place in Alma on May 23.
The event was created in memory of Madilyn Boonstra, who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in December 2025 and sadly passed away on March 6, 2026.
Organizers say the run represents more than a race — it is a chance for the community to stand beside Madilyn’s parents, Adam and Laurissa, and her family, showing love through action and coming together in support of children and families affected by pediatric brain cancer.
“Madilyn was a bright, strong, and courageous young girl who had faced challenges no child should ever have to face. This run is more than just a race. It’s a way to stand beside Madilyn and her family. It’s a way to show love in action. Every step taken and every dollar raised represents encouragement, hope, and community strength,” the Run for Madiyln website said.

50% of the proceeds from this event will go directly to Madilyn’s parents, Adam and Laurissa.
“They will be using the money to help pay for the headstone for our beloved Madilyn.”
The remaining 50% will be donated to The Brain Tumor Research Center at Sick Kids to help fight the fight against cancer and give other children like Madilyn a chance.
“Brain cancer affects thousands of children and families each year. This race is our way of turning a difficult journey into something powerful—bringing our community together to support Madilyn’s family and help other children facing similar battles”.
