ABOYNE – It’s National Volunteer Appreciation Week and today, as members of the Groves Hospital Volunteer Association, which includes the New To You Fergus shop, gathered to celebrate not only to celebrate volunteerism, but also to present a cheque for $1-Million to the Groves Hospital Foundation.
This significant moment marked the meeting of a pledge – a promise made by the Groves Hospital Volunteer association in 2016 to raise $1 million in 10 years in support of the hospital.
In a post to social media, the organization says that despite the challenges of COVID-19, including 1.5 years of shutdowns that significantly impacted operations, the volunteers still achieved their goals and fulfilled that promise today, with their final contribution of $200,000.
They group credits this success with the dedication of their volunteers and the generosity and community spirit of the community.
At today’s celebration, the volunteers voted on how the final funds will support patient care at Groves Memorial Community Hospital and these funds will supply
– 2 pediatric scopes for the OR
– Fetal monitors for obstetrics
– An endoscopy video tower imprinter and generator (expanding the hospital’s ability to perform endoscopic procedures)
And while today’s announcement marks the end of a chapter, organizers insist, they are just getting started.
