NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) – A driver is charged with several offences following a traffic stop in Mapleton.
On April 21, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit was conducting proactive traffic enforcement on Wellington Road 12 in Mapleton when the cruiser’s Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) notified the officer of a vehicle that was potentially being operated by a suspended driver. A traffic stop was initiated, at which time the vehicle was observed to be in an unsafe condition.
As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old from Priceville, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and the Trespass to Property Act with:
- Drive while under suspension
- Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
- Operate unsafe vehicle
- No muffler- motor vehicle
- Defective braking system
- Improper tires
- Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates
- Enter premises when entry prohibited
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Provincial Offences Court in Guelph on August 5, 2026.
