GUELPH – A Cambridge woman is charged with impaired and dangerous driving after a traffic stop in Guelph yesterday morning.
At around 7:30 am, police were informed of a vehicle being driven erratically into Guelph on Highway 6 North.
The caller advised they had been following the vehicle since Fergus and had seen it travelling through red lights, and it was involved in a minor collision outside of Guelph.
Guelph Police located and stopped the vehicle near Woolwich Street and Woodlawn Road.
Police say the driver was showing signs of impairment and performed poorly on a roadside sobriety test. She was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition concluded her ability to drive was impaired by drugs.
A search of the vehicle revealed several prescription medications, including sedatives.
A 64-year-old Cambridge woman is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. Her licence was suspended for 90 days, and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. She will appear in court in June.
