GUELPH – A Guelph man and woman face a number of charges after police located a loaded handgun and $17,000 worth of drugs while executing search warrants Wednesday morning.
Earlier this year the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit received information about two individuals trafficking controlled substances. On Wednesday morning members of the Drug Unit, Tactics and Rescue Unit and Break Enter Auto Theft Unit executed warrants at two apartments in the area of Willow Road and Dawson Road.
Officers recovered quantities of suspected fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and hydromorpohone with a total value of $17,000. Officers also located a loaded 9mm handgun with the serial number removed, two replica firearms and nearly $7,000 in cash.
A 38-year-old Guelph man is charged with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, tampering with a firearm serial number and possessing proceeds of crime under $5,000.
A 44-year-old Guelph woman is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possessing proceeds of crime under $5,000. Both were held for bail hearings Wednesday.
“We continue to see a troubling number of firearm‑related incidents, and criminal activity that puts our community at risk,” said Guelph Police Service Chief Gord Cobey. “This activity will not be tolerated, and our officers remain focused on proactive enforcement and targeted initiatives to keep our city safe.”
