Press Release: Wellington County OPP, May 4, 2026.
TOWN OF MINTO – Investigation at Palmerston Public School.
On April 30, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to Palmerston Public School involving an undischarged round (bullet) for a firearm being located by a student on school grounds.
Upon being notified, OPP officers attended the school, secured the item, and conducted a search of the surrounding area.
No additional items of concern were located during that search.
At this time, there is no information to suggest an ongoing risk to students, staff, or the broader community. Incidents of this nature are taken seriously.
The OPP continues to work cooperatively with the school and school board. Out of respect for the investigative process, and to avoid speculation, no further details will be released at this time.
The OPP would like to thank the student and school staff for reporting the item quickly and appropriately.
