Guelph-based martial artist, Nathan Skoufis, will be competing for top honours at the World Karate Commission’s (WKC) World Championships later this year.
Skoufis qualified for the international competition by being one of the top athletes at the WKC Canadian National Championships, which took place in Ottawa from May 14 – 16.
He first represented Team Canada in 2007 at the World Championships in Atlantic City, U.S.
Skoufis will once again be competing on the Men’s 18+ Fighting Weight Division team where he has won previous titles.
“I started martial arts as a young child right here in this community, and to now have the opportunity to compete for Team Canada is something I’m extremely grateful for,” Skoufis said.
As one of the head instructors of Guelph Family Martial Arts he is eager to continue inspiring today’s youth.
“I hope it shows young people that big goals are possible when you stay consistent, work hard, and keep believing in yourself even during the difficult moments.”
The WKC World Championships will be hosted from Oct., 24 – 30, in Chiclana, Spain.
