GUELPH – Three charges laid as a result of child being observed to be unrestrained in moving vehicle.
On May 26, 2026, at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit were conducting a proactive traffic enforcement initiative, and initiated a traffic stop on Wellington Street West, within the City of Guelph.
It was noted that the officer observed a small child passenger standing in the rear seating area and learning out the driver-side rear window. Concerned for the child’s safety, a traffic stop was promptly conducted on the subject motor vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old from Guelph is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Drive while under passenger not properly secured.
- Fail to have insurance card.
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit.
