Press Release: Wellington County OPP, May 28, 2026.
WELLINGTON NORTH – On April 9, 2026, at approximately 12:00 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report that a pedestrian and their dog was struck by a tractor-trailer while attempting to cross Highway 6 within the Town of Arthur.
It was reported that the tractor-trailer was heading northbound on Highway 6 and attempting to turn right, eastbound onto Frederick Street East, when the pedestrian and their dog was struck. The pedestrian was transported by air ambulance to a trauma centre with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The dog was declared deceased.
On May 26, 2026, a 60-year-old man from Markdale, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
· Careless Driving causing Bodily Harm
· Fail to Yield to Pedestrian on Roadway
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Provincial Offences Court in Guelph at a later date.
