NEWS RELEASE ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE WEST REGION
(WEST REGION, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to promote safe driving practices through the “Stop. Look. Live.” campaign by emphasizing the importance of taking a second look at intersections.
Many intersection collisions occur when drivers believe it is safe to proceed after a single glance. However, traffic conditions can change rapidly, and vehicles approaching at higher speeds may not be immediately visible.
“In many cases, drivers involved in collisions did not intend for them to happen. A moment of inattention or a missed observation can have life-altering consequences.” – Staff Sergeant Julie McLeod, West Region OPP Traffic and Marine.
To reduce risk, drivers are encouraged to:
- Look left, right, and left again before entering an intersection
- Take an extra moment to ensure no vehicles are approaching quickly
- Account for limited visibility due to weather, obstructions, or lighting conditions
- Avoid rushing, even when they feel pressure from other drivers
A second look is a simple but powerful action that allows drivers to make informed, safe decisions.
That extra moment could prevent serious injury, loss of life, and the lasting impact that follows.
Stop. Look. Live.
