ELORA – Power has been restored to the vast majority of Hydro One customers affected by Wednesday’s severe thunderstorms across rural Centre Wellington.
According to the latest Hydro One outage map, just over 100 customers remain without electricity west of Elora, primarily in the Wellington Road 21 area. Hydro One estimates power will be restored by 12 p.m. this (Friday) afternoon, although restoration times could change as crews continue to assess damage on site.
Hydro One says crews, along with contractors and additional utility workers, have been working around the clock to safely restore service following several rounds of powerful thunderstorms that caused significant damage to the electrical system.
The utility notes that restoration efforts are prioritized to bring power back to the greatest number of customers as quickly as possible. This means crews must first repair damaged transmission and main distribution lines before restoring service to smaller, localized outages.
With the risk of additional thunderstorms and extreme heat continuing into tomorrow, residents are encouraged to stay weather aware. Anyone needing information on local cooling centres can call 2-1-1 for assistance.
