NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On July 8, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), alongside local paramedic and fire services responded to the report of a single-vehicle collision on Sideroad 5 West, between Concession 9 and Highway 6 in Wellington North Township.
It was determined that the vehicle left the roadway and collided into a hydro pole.
The driver, a 72-year-old of Moorefield, suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. A passenger was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to a trauma centre with minor injuries.
OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team is assisting with the investigation.
Sideroad 5 West is currently closed between Highway 6 and Concession Road 9 and will remain so for the next several hours. The public is asked to use alternate routes.
