NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(CENTRE WELLINGTONTOWNSHIP, ON) – A Fergus driver has been arrested after going through a RIDE spot check.
On July 6, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot check to examine the sobriety of drivers on Wellington Road 29, outside of Fergus. A vehicle entered the checkpoint, where officers located cannabis within the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, police also located a large quantity of suspected cocaine and items consistent with drug trafficking.
As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old from Fergus, is charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Cannabis Control Act with:
- Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
The accused was held in police custody, pending a bail hearing before the Ontario County of Justice in Guelph on July 7, 2026.
