FERGUS – It was a successful weekend on the pitch for the Highland Rugby Club in Fergus.
The Highland Senior Men picked up a 59-28 victory over the Toronto Buccaneers, while the Highland HOGS battled to a 15-15 draw against the Burlington NOBS.
The club now turns its attention to two special international exhibition matches this week as it welcomes visiting teams from Wales to Victoria Park in Fergus.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, July 14), the Highland Under-16 Boys take on St. Albans School at 7 p.m.
Then on Friday, July 17, the Highland Under-18 Boys face Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in another 7 p.m. kickoff.
The evening will include a community BBQ, players being piped onto the field, and performances of the Canadian and Welsh national anthems by the Burlington Male Welsh Choir.
Both matches will also support a local cause, with food donations being collected for the Centre Wellington Food Bank as part of the club’s Highland Tackles Hunger campaign. The initiative brings together the club’s Minis and HOGS programs to help stock the shelves at the local food bank while showcasing international rugby in the community.
Residents are encouraged to come out to Victoria Park to support the local teams, welcome their Welsh visitors, and contribute to the food drive.
