(CENTRE WELLINGTON) – According to Wellington County OPP a Guelph driver has been removed from the roadways following a traffic stop in Centre Wellington.
Police said on July 19, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign and was operating dangerously on Highway 6 near 4th Line in the Township of Centre Wellington.
As a result of the investigation, Evan Townsend (22) from Guelph, is charged under the Criminal Code, the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Dangerous operation
– Disobey stop sign – fail to stop
– Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero
– Fail to surrender insurance card
The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 28, 2026.
A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.
