Wellington County OPP said in a press release Fergus Pet Corner was broken into early this morning.
Police said at approximately 1:45 a.m. on July 22, Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a break-and-enter.
The report said an unknown suspect smashed a glass door to gain entry, and once inside, stole around $200 in cash and an entire cash register.
Store staff said they try to mitigate robberies by keeping as little cash on-site as possible; owner Franca Augello also said a small float is kept in the till.
The store’s camera revealed the suspect had been scoping out the site starting at around 1:30 a.m.
Augello received an alert on her phone at 1:44 a.m. indicating the alarm had gone off and upon her arrival, roughly five minutes later, she was greeted by a mess of shattered glass, loose change and dog treats scattered throughout the entrance of the store.
However, she was relieved to learn none of the pets were harmed.

Police arrived within minutes, but the suspect had already fled the scene.
An investigation is ongoing, and police have supplied a photo of the suspect for reference.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall man weighing approximately 200 lbs and wearing a black winter jacket, grey pants and gloves.
