A Windsor injury law firm has been retained on behalf of the Doerksen and Bartsch families to help determine what happened in the Mapleton Township crash that claimed the lives of five siblings last month.
Greg Monforton & Partners announced last week it has been retained on behalf of the surviving victims and their families following the June 12 collision at the intersection of Wellington Road 12 and 4th Line.
According to the firm, it is believed the crash occurred when an SUV failed to obey a stop sign before striking the family’s van.
The collision claimed the lives of five siblings from the Doerksen family — Susy, Maggie, Sara, Helena and Peter — who ranged in age from four to 12 years old. Their parents, a five-month-old sibling, and Peter and Elizabeth Bartsch suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the SUV later died in hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.
In a statement, managing partner Joanna Sweet said the surviving victims and their families deserve answers.
“Losing a single child is every parent’s worst nightmare. To lose five in one instant is a tragedy beyond words. The survivors need answers, and we are committed to determining exactly how this horrific crash happened.”
The police investigation remains ongoing.
