Fergus native Denver Manderson is taking on a bigger role within the AHL Toronto Marlies organization.
The Marlies recently announced in a press release that Manderson has been promoted to Assistant Coach ahead of the 2026-27 American Hockey League season.
In addition to his coaching duties with the Marlies, he will also serve as the Maple Leafs’ Director of Minor League Development, overseeing player development throughout the organization’s farm system.
Manderson, 37, has been with the Maple Leafs organization since joining as a Team Consultant following the end of his playing career in 2017-18. He was promoted to Development Coach in 2023-24, working exclusively with the NHL club.
Before moving into coaching and player development, the Fergus native played more than 300 professional games across the American Hockey League, ECHL and Finland’s Mestis league. He has also contributed to player development with the Guelph Storm and the University of Guelph.
“I’m excited to welcome Denver and Greg to our coaching staff,” said Marlies Head Coach Steve Sullivan in a news release. “They both bring valuable experience, strong hockey knowledge and a commitment to creating an environment where players can grow and succeed. They are excellent additions to our group, and we’re looking forward to the impact they will have on our players and our organization’s continued success.”
The Marlies also announced the hiring of Greg Moore as an Assistant Coach and Chris Bourque as Assistant General Manager as part of several hockey operations changes ahead of the upcoming season.
