GUELPH – A 37-year-old Arkell man is facing several charges after police found a vehicle stopped partially in a bike lane in Guelph.
Police were called around 7:30 Tuesday morning after a concerned member of the public reported a vehicle near Arkell Road and Gordon Street.
Officers found the vehicle stopped diagonally, with one side on the curb and grass and part of the vehicle blocking a bicycle lane. Police also noted the vehicle was missing its rear bumper.
While speaking with the driver, officers spotted a glass pipe containing suspected drug residue on the driver’s seat. The man performed poorly on a standard field sobriety test and was arrested.
Police say further investigation found the licence plates were not authorized for the vehicle, which was also deemed unsafe and had no permit or insurance.
The man is facing charges including impaired operation, three counts of breaching probation, using unauthorized plates, driving without a permit or insurance, operating an unsafe vehicle and careless driving.
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
He is scheduled to appear in court October 2.
