NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY MUSEUM AND ARCHIVES
Wellington County, Ont. – Fifty years of cars, memories, friendships and community will take centre stage this Sunday as the Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) celebrates the 50th anniversary of its annual Car Show, the Museum and Archives’ longest-running recurring event.
The anniversary celebration takes place Sunday, August 23, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on the WCMA grounds. Visitors are invited to stroll through the aisles of vehicles, discover unique and nostalgic cars, trucks, vans and bikes, vote for their favourites, and enjoy live music and food available for purchase.
“Reaching 50 years is an incredible milestone for an event that has become such an important part of the WCMA’s calendar,” said Katie Clarke, the WCMA’s Interim Museum Programming Supervisor. “What makes the Car Show so special isn’t just the incredible collection of vehicles – it’s the people who bring them, the conversations that happen throughout the day, and the memories that are created and shared.”
Registration and parking for the Car Show are by donation, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the Museum’s front lawn. There are no restrictions on make, model or year: if there is a vehicle you want to show off, the WCMA wants to see it. Car show awards will be announced at 3:00 p.m.
In the lead-up to this year’s event, the WCMA also invited members of the public to share a Car Story – the trips, memories, friendships, and personal stories behind their vehicles. From treasured family vehicles to cars connected to friendships, milestones and memorable international adventures, stories submitted have been shared on the WCMA’s social media channels leading to the event.
“Every vehicle has a story, and those stories are really the heart of this event,” said Jana Burns, Wellington Place Administrator. “For 50 years, the Car Show has brought people together through a shared love of vehicles, but it has also created a space for people to connect, reminisce and share pieces of their lives. We’re proud to celebrate that history and invite everyone to help us make the 50th anniversary one to remember.”
Adding to the celebration, visitors can enjoy live music from the Soothe and Groove band, and food for purchase from Siggi’s Food Truck and the Fo’ Cheezy Food Truck.
