WELLINGTON COUNTY – Two seats on Wellington County Council have been decided without a vote ahead of this fall’s municipal election.
With the nomination period now closed, Mary Lloyd has been acclaimed as the Wellington County councillor for Ward 5, while Diane Ballantyne has been acclaimed in Ward 6.
Both Lloyd and Ballantyne were the only candidates registered in their respective wards; they have automatically secured their seats on county council for 2026–2030.
In a post to social media, Diane Ballantyne said, “It is an honour to serve our community and to play a role in building a stronger Wellington County—one where everyone feels welcomed as we live, work and play. A community with vibrant opportunities, strong infrastructure and dependable services. Thank you for your encouragement and support on this journey. To my constituents, I look forward to continuing the hard work on your behalf: listening to your concerns, representing our shared interests around the Council table, and advocating to the Province for the resources and support our communities need.”
In a statement to The Grand at 101 Mary Lloyd said “I am very honoured with the opportunity to serve my residents for 2026-30. We have a great many issues coming forward from housing, transit, and daycare to urban sprawl. I believe my experience will serve the community well and keep Ward 5 county strong!”
While there won’t be a county council vote in those wards, residents will still have other municipal and school board races to consider on October 26th.
