FERGUS: A traveling troupe of furry friends are making their way from North Bay for potential adoptions here in Fergus.
Over a dozen dogs, cats, kittens and puppies from the North Bay and District Humane Society will be rolling into Fergus for a special adoption event at Pet Valu Fergus on Sept. 12 and 13.
The North Bay and District Humane Society said all the pets are healthy, vaccinated, spayed or neutered (if age-appropriate), well-rested and prepared for the journey to minimize stress.
As read in a press release, “One of our primary goals is to ensure every healthy, adoptable animal has an opportunity to find a loving home as quickly as possible,” said Liam Cullin, the North Bay and District Humane Society’s executive director, “while our local community is incredibly supportive, adoption demand can vary significantly from one region to another.”
Roughly 6-15 dogs and puppies and approximately 8 cats and kittens will make their way to Fergus in the Animal Rescue & Relief Transport; it’s a custom 24-foot trailer outfitted with modern cages and air conditioning and was funded by Pet Valu sponsorships.
In the press release Greg and Nina Querin of Pet Valu Fergus said “when a pet finds a loving home, its life is changed and it also creates much needed space in the Humane Society’s shelter so they can continue to accept, and care for, animals in need from North Bay and across Northern Ontario.”
This past winter the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society recognized an “urgent and growing need” in Northern Ontario for animal welfare services.
The adoption event will be held at Pet Valu in Fergus (900 Tower St. S.) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sept. 12, and between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sept. 13.
The Saturday (Sept. 12) will also host staff from The Fergus Veterinary Hospital to answer questions from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
