WELLINGTON COUNTY – An Elmira resident is facing multiple charges following a lengthy drug trafficking investigation by Wellington County OPP.
Police say the investigation began in March and culminated Thursday, September 3rd, when officers executed two search warrants at locations in Waterloo Region.
The Wellington County OPP Community Street Crime Unit was assisted by several other units, including investigators from Huron/Perth, Haldimand/Norfolk, Grey Bruce and Lambton, along with the Wellington County Crime Unit and Community Response Unit.
As a result of the searches, police seized illegal narcotics with an estimated potential street value of $603,048.70.
A large amount of Canadian currency and other offence-related property was also seized.
A 26-year-old of Elmira was arrested without incident and is facing six charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Criminal Code including:
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule 4 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a schedule 3 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of tracking – other drugs (two counts)
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – in Canada
The individual was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph.
