WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wellington County OPP issued more than 180 traffic-related charges during this year’s Labour Day weekend enforcement campaign.
That includes 118 speeding charges between September 4th and 7th.
Officers in the county also issued 53 seatbelt charges, six impaired driving charges, three stunt driving charges, and one distracted driving charge.
The enforcement campaign focused on what the OPP calls the “Big Four” — aggressive driving, failing to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving.
Across the OPP’s West Region, officers conducted more than 2,300 traffic stops and laid 2,142 charges over the four-day campaign.
That included more than 1,000 speeding charges, along with 172 seatbelt offences, 52 impaired driving charges, 37 stunt driving charges and 11 distracted driving charges.
The OPP says these dangerous driving behaviours continue to be among the leading contributors to deaths, injuries and property damage on Ontario roads.
Police are thanking drivers who made the choice to drive safely and reminding motorists that traffic enforcement continues year-round.
