FERGUS – Residents looking for more information about a proposed AI data centre in Fergus will have an opportunity to ask questions directly to the company behind the project.
Spur Innovation is holding a public town hall on Saturday, September 19th, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at its Waterloo campus on University Avenue.
The meeting will focus on Spur’s proposal to transform the former copper tubing manufacturing site at 865 Gartshore Street into what the company describes as a Canadian AI computing and innovation facility.
The event comes as Centre Wellington considers putting a temporary halt on new AI data centre developments while the township looks at the potential impacts of these types of facilities.
Council has already given preliminary approval to move ahead with a possible one-year moratorium, with the proposed bylaw expected to come back for final consideration on September 28th.
Spur says the town hall is open to everyone, including people who have concerns or oppose the proposed development.
Residents can submit questions ahead of time through the company’s website, with responses planned for the meeting or to be posted online before the event.
