GUELPH – A 13-year-old Guelph boy has been arrested following an incident Friday that briefly placed several schools in Guelph under a hold and secure.
Guelph Police say they received a report around 1:30 p.m. of a person with a firearm near College Avenue West and Vanier Drive.
Police say “A witness reported the suspect removed a firearm from a backpack and racked the slide before putting it back in the backpack and fleeing the area.”
Several nearby schools were placed on hold and secured as officers investigated. Police later located the suspect inside a nearby business.
Officers recovered a realistic-looking air pistol, along with a unique knife that was later determined to have been stolen.
The 13-year-old is facing charges including possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possessing stolen property, and failing to comply with an undertaking.
The youth is scheduled to appear in court in November.
