GUELPH – Wellington County is providing up to two million dollars to support a new affordable housing project in Guelph.
The funding was approved at Thursday’s County Council meeting and will go toward Kindle Communities Organization’s plans for six affordable housing units at 10 Shelldale Crescent.
The County is the Service System Manager for all social services in both the City of Guelph and Wellington County.
In a news release Thursday, the County says, “On May 26, 2026, the County of Wellington received a funding announcement and dedicated up to $2 million dollars to support the development of affordable housing.”
“In July, Housing Services staff released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to community partners and local municipalities interested in developing new deeply affordable rental housing units (below 80% of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s average market rent). The RFP closed on July 31, 2026, and Housing Services received six proposals for the development of deeply affordable housing within Wellington County and the City of Guelph,” the news release said.
Council approved the funding following a recommendation from the Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee.
The project must be in a position to sign a contribution agreement by December 15th, and construction must begin within 120 days of that date.
“This $2 million dollar investment in affordable housing will help fill a critical housing gap in our service delivery area,” said Dave Purdy, Director of Housing Services. “The County looks forward to publicly announcing the funding sources at the appropriate time.”
The specific funding sources for the project remain embargoed for now.
