CENTRE WELLINGTON – Wellington County OPP are asking the public to avoid sharing unverified information online or within the community as the investigation continues into a fatal pedestrian-involved collision in Centre Wellington.
The collision happened just after midnight on Saturday, September 19th, on Wellington Road 29, south of the Eramosa-Garafraxa Town Line.
Emergency services responded to the scene involving a pedestrian and a minivan. The pedestrian, a 16-year-old male from Puslinch Township, was pronounced dead.
The OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation with the Criminal Investigation Branch, the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Pathology Service, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services.
Police say “this incident has deeply affected the community.”
“Members of the public are urged to be cautious when sharing or posting unverified information, photos or videos related to this incident as it can contribute to misinformation, unnecessary concern within the community and potentially affect the ongoing investigation,” police said in a news release.
As the investigation continues, police urge the public to avoid speculation and rely on information released through official channels.
