CENTRE WELLINGTON – The launch of Centre Wellington’s Municipal Accommodation Tax has been pushed back to the new year.
Council approved amendments to the Township’s MAT by-law Monday, moving the start date from September 1st, 2026, to January 1st, 2027.
The five-per-cent tax will apply to short-term accommodation stays of fewer than 28 consecutive days, including hotels, bed and breakfasts and short-term rentals.
The Township says the delay will give staff and accommodation providers more time to complete “the systems, registration and implementation work needed for a successful launch.”
Another change will see accommodation providers submit MAT reports and payments to the Township quarterly instead of monthly.
The Township says this is intended to reduce administrative requirements for both local operators and municipal staff.
Revenue from the tax will be split equally between the Township and the Centre Wellington Economic Development Municipal Services Corporation, with funds supporting economic development, tourism promotion and related initiatives.
