CENTRE WELLINGTON – Two people are confirmed dead following a small plane crash in a field outside of Fergus.
Wellington County OPP say emergency crews were called to the area of Beatty Line and Wellington Road 17 at around 10:15 Friday morning.
Police say the involved aircraft was reported to have crashed into a field and subsequently catched fire.
“The fire was successfully extinguished and members of the Wellington County OPP, OPP Urban Search and Rescue, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives Team, and Tactical Emergency Medical Services were on scene assisting with the investigation of this incident,” OPP said in a news release.

Police confirmed the aircraft was occupied by two people at the time of the crash.
“Both individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. There are no other reported injuries,” police said.
OPP resources cleared the area shortly after noon on Saturday.
The crash remains under investigation. Police say all inquiries should be directed to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
