FERGUS – An increased police presence in Fergus Friday night ended with one individual in custody.
The Wellington County OPP had advised residents to avoid the area of Wellington Road 18, between Can Robert Street and Beatty Line, due to a heavy police presence.
Some area residents also reported a helicopter circling the area.
OPP say officers remained on scene while dealing with the situation, which was cleared around 10:15 Friday night.
Police say one individual was taken into custody without incident, and no other individuals were being sought.
The OPP also confirmed there was no threat to public safety and thanked residents for their patience and cooperation.
