WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Wellington County Museum and Archives is inviting residents to come together next week to remember and honour more than 500 local men and women who lost their lives serving Canada.
The Museum will be holding its annual Remembrance Day programming with two events planned ahead of November 11th.
The first is a Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, November 9th, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on the Museum’s front lawn.
Members of the Royal Canadian Legion will read the names of Wellington County’s fallen from the First World War, Second World War, Korea and Afghanistan. The ceremony will be followed by a reception with light refreshments.
The following evening, Tuesday, November 10th, a Candle Vigil will take place from 5:30 until 6 p.m. A remembrance candle will be placed at each memorial marker, with the candles remaining lit until November 12th, including throughout Remembrance Day.
This year, visitors will also notice an update to the Museum’s front lawn, with the County upgrading its memorial markers to poppies, creating a visual tribute to the more than 500 local lives lost during major conflicts.

Warden Chris White says these events are an important opportunity for the community to come together and reflect on the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy today.
“These events at the WCMA ensure that the stories of the men and women from Wellington County who served are never forgotten. I encourage residents to take part, learn about our local history, and take a moment to remember those who gave so much.”
For those unable to attend in person, the Wellington County Remembers Database also allows residents to learn more about the people behind the names on the markers. Launched in 2020, the database includes photographs, letters, attestation papers, and service records.
