GUELPH – Guelph General Hospital is getting ready to make some improvements to its main lobby, with construction on a new Welcome Centre set to begin next week.
The Ted and Neena Kohli Welcome Centre will get underway on November 11th, with the project expected to be completed by January 2027.
“We are pleased to see this project moving forward and proud to play a part in it,” said Ted and Neena Kohli, two long-time community supporters whose generosity helped make this project possible. “Knowing that this space will support patients and families and contribute to their experience at the hospital makes it especially meaningful to us.”
The hospital says the renovations are aimed at making the hospital entrance more welcoming and making it easier for patients and visitors to find their way around.
The work will include:
-
An upgraded Information and Welcome Desk to improve visitor assistance and support.
-
Improved wayfinding and signage, including a digital information display to help people navigate the hospital.
Updated finishes and design features to create a warmer, more comfortable, and functional space.
“Coming to the hospital can be overwhelming; it is important to us that we provide an environment that is welcoming, accessible, and efficient to help navigate a visit with us,” said Mark Walton, President & CEO. “This project will streamline navigation, improve comfort, and ensure a smoother experience for patients and their loved ones from the moment they arrive to when they return to the community.”
Officials say the main hospital entrance will continue to be available from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
“During overnight hours, the public is asked to enter through the Emergency Department. Parking, programs, and services will not be impacted by the project,” the hospital said.
Volunteers will remain stationed in the main lobby for the duration of the project (and beyond) to support with wayfinding and navigating changes to the space.
“This renovation will provide a welcoming, compassionate first impression for every patient and visitor,” said Dan Trotta, Volunteer Main Lobby Greeter at Guelph General Hospital. “To guide guests seamlessly to their destinations with clarity, care, and peace of mind.”
