MEDIA RELEASE COUNTY OF WELLINGTON
ABOYNE, ON – Today, an employee at Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home in Aboyne, tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is experiencing mild to moderate symptoms and is recovering in isolation at home. Wellington Terrace staff immediately responded to the situation with direction from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health to limit further transmission of the virus. All families of Wellington Terrace residents have been notified of the situation.
Upon receiving the COVID-19 positive test result, Wellington Terrace worked closely with Wellington- Dufferin-Guelph Public Health to begin contact tracing those that may have come in contact with the infected employee.
“As a result of the investigation, it was determined that exposure risk is low,” said Warden Kelly Linton. “Full personal protective equipment is worn at all times and the employee was last at Wellington Terrace on Sunday, November 22. No additional staff members are required to self-isolate. We are all sending our employee well wishes for an expedient recovery.”
“Protecting our long-term care residents, who are most vulnerable, remains our top priority,” said Suzanne Dronick, Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home Administrator. “Wellington Terrace follows extensive infection control processes that follow Ministry of Health directives and are guided by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health. To date, we have not had any positive cases of COVID-19 in
our resident population.”
Wellington Terrace employees are tested every 7 days as per Ministry of Health directives. Any resident that shows even the slightest evidence of a health change is immediately tested for COVID-19.
