Media Release – January 15, 2021
A Guelph female was arrested at gunpoint in the downtown core Thursday after a witness saw her put a handgun in her waistband.
The Guelph Police Service received a call just before 2 p.m. from someone who saw a female with a gun in the area of the transit terminal on Carden Street. When officers arrived in the area one minute later the female attempted to flee on foot but was stopped a short distance away.
Due to the concern for public safety and belief the female was armed, a gunpoint arrest was initiated. During the arrest the female reached into her waistband, removing what appeared to be a brown and silver handgun and throwing it to her side.
Police recovered a pellet gun which had been modified to look like a Smith & Wesson handgun.
A 24-year-old Guelph female is charged with carrying a concealed weapon as well as breaching a judicial release order by possessing a weapon and breach of probation.
She was held in custody for a bail hearing Friday.
