A 48-year-old Guelph male died Thursday morning after he was struck by a motor vehicle in the city’s west end.
The Guelph Police Service was called to Speedvale Avenue West at Elmira Road North just before 7 a.m. Investigation revealed a male pedestrian was attempting to cross Speedvale Avenue on foot when he was struck by an eastbound Toyota motor vehicle.
The pedestrian, 48-year-old Habtom Mossa of Guelph, suffered significant injuries and was transported to Guelph General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the motor vehicle was transported to Guelph General Hospital to be checked out.
The road was closed for several hours while members of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Services and Forensic Identification Unit conducted an investigation at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police, or who has dashcam footage of the incident, is asked to call Constable Tim Paneghel at 519-824-1212, ext. 7529.
